About

Mitchell Elegbe pioneered Nigeria’s digital payments ecosystem long before it became mainstream. Through Interswitch, one of Africa’s foremost "unicorn" companies, he built the interoperable infrastructure that processes billions of transactions annually. His innovation has enabled financial inclusion for millions and transformed how money moves across the continent, earning him the 2019 African Banker Icon award and the EY West Africa Entrepreneur of the Year award.

A graduate of Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Benin, he is also an alumnus of the IESE/Wharton/CEIBS Global CEO Program. Before founding Interswitch, he worked as a Wireline Engineer at Schlumberger and Group Head of Business Development at Telnet. A Bishop Desmond Tutu Fellow, Elegbe is recognized as a High Impact Entrepreneurship Enabler and a mentor to the next generation of tech leaders.
